[ Whenever Henry returns to the Unidorm that afternoon, he'll find Alec in the living room. He's dragged a chair over from the kitchen table and has it balanced back on two legs while he fiddles with his phone.
One might assume he's trying to crack the Metanav app (he is), and so far has gotten fucking nowhere (he has). He glances up when the door swings shut, and he just grins. ]
[Well, just when Henry had finally evened out after the elevators, now he’s back to being in a less than amiable mood. Upon entry, it looks like he’s going to have to deal with Alec, who looks at him with a grin that cannot mean anything promising.]
Am I.
[He’s crossing through the living room. In fact, it looks like he’s just going to stride right into the kitchen regardless of what Alec has to say.]
[ There is a Sphinx-colored present with Henry's name on it outside the Unicorn dorm the following day, along with a handwritten note, because she just can't get used to this phone thing. ]
Henry,
Thank you for the present. If you're curious to know, it was a succulent plant inside. I'm grateful!
[ At some point when Henry wanders back into his room, he'll find a small package wrapped in plain brown paper sitting in the middle of his no-doubt immaculately made bed. There's no tag, no team colors, but there is, perhaps, a tiny lightning bolt scribbled onto one corner of the wrapping, should he care to look for it.
(But really, who else would be able to get in and out of Henry's room without being noticed?)
Anyway, peeling back the wrapping paper will reveal a tin of drawing pencils. Maybe this will make up for the dice. ]
Henry, of course, notices the little lightning bolt etched somewhere on the paper. He turns the present over in his hands once, twice, trying to... understand why it's here. The wrapping isn't bright pink, and Alec already gave him a “gift” earlier — what is this for?
(Is it unrelated to the game?)
Once unwrapped, the little tin of drawing pencils stares up at him from below. And Henry, not for the first time, just feels utterly upended by the gesture. This is too relevant to be random; all signs point to it being purposeful.
[ Hey Henry, are you in your room? He sure hopes so because that portal at the foot of the bed is flickering open, a darkened room in the library on the other side.
Alec promised not to track any dirt or grime into the place, but he kind of forgot about that. He hobbles through the portal, looking a bit dirty, a bit pained, but most striking of all is how the knee of one pantleg is torn, the fabric soaking through with blood. ]
Hey. [ He sucks in a breath between his teeth. ] Gonna need you to hold me up.
[ The second he lets go of his Enhancements, he will fall over. ]
[He doesn’t like dirt or grime or blood in his room, no, but the situation’s different when Alec’s injured. When he appears at the foot of his bed so suddenly that it does actually make Henry startle, the sight stills him for a half-second, and then he’s up on his feet from his perch on the bed to offer him support.
He has an arm around him in an instant, but at an angle in which he can still assess just what’s happened. Eyes rake across his form. It looks like he’s just come fresh off a scuffle, but what stands out is the state of Alec's leg, his knee. Blood.
Concern pinches at his brow, of course, but there is a strange intensity in Henry’s gaze that is hard to parse. Like it could be either fire or ice.]
[ it happens outside of the motel. maybe in the graveyard, maybe at the library, or maybe at the diner—because Basilisk still does not have a kitchen, but a tiefling has to eat. wherever it is, there they are.
it's a moment much like a handful of other moments before it. a glimpse of blonde hair twigs in her peripheral and the realization—it's him—hits her like an adrenaline shot. her blood runs cold, her stomach seizes. she feels abruptly even sicker than usual.
and she can't keep taking it.
this time, she forces some kind of mental override in her brain, makes herself move closer instead of ducking away. near enough that he'll be able to hear her murmur, ] ...Can we talk?
[Let's just say it's at the library -- Henry is tall, but he has to stand on his tip-toes to read the book he's aiming for, easing it out by its spine. (A strange way to go about it, for a man with telekinesis.) She interrupts him amid this effort, and her voice surprises him. Not because she has startled him, but because it is her, and he is not sure when--or even if, at this rate--she would approach him again.
He pauses, trying to read her expression. To him, looks like an echo of the day they spoke last.
At least there's no oni present.]
...Sprezzatura.
[He abandons his book for now, turning to face her properly.]
